Whether you work in a retail store, an office or in the construction industry, it is very important to familiarize yourself with job-related hazards that you could encounter. For example, you could suffer serious injuries if you slip on a slick surface, or fall down for some other reason. By recognizing some of the common ways in which workers slip and fall down, you can reduce the chances of becoming injured in such an accident.

Sadly, slip-and-fall accidents can result in debilitating injuries and other consequences that shatter workers’ lives.

Reviewing reasons why slip-and-fall accidents occur at work

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention goes over some of the reasons why so many workers find themselves hurt in slip-and-fall accidents. For example, a spill could cause someone to slip and fall down, and these accidents cause many retail workers to become injured. Inadequate lighting can increase the chances of an accident, and workers can also fall down as a result of ice, rain or snow.

Sometimes, workers fall down due to tripping on clutter or because of loose rugs, and ladder falls account for many occupational injuries as well.

Preventing fall-related accidents

You should immediately inform your supervisor if you notice a hazard that could cause someone to fall down. Spills, clutter, cords and other hazards that could lead to an accident require immediate attention, and workers should exercise caution while using a ladder or the stairs.

If you sustained an injury at work because you fell down, you need to focus on the physical and financial aspects of your recovery.
